Power Amplifiers
A power amplifier is a component that is positioned in front of a passive loudspeaker. Its function is to boost a line-level signal to a volume that can fill a space with sound. One, two, or more channels can be found in power amplifiers. For instance, a mono power amp has one channel, whereas a stereo power amp has two. While designs differ, most power amplifiers have a power switch that turns the device on and a volume control that regulates the output level. A power amplifier is what you need if you want to boost a sound source’s level so you can play it through a speaker (or several speakers).
