Q Acoustics Concept 300 Review – Bookshelf Speaker

Standard speakers have never been produced by Q Acoustics. Even their entry-level 3000 series is renowned for technological advancements including enticing curved cabinets with practical low-profile binding posts, computer-designed point-to-point bracing for reduced resonances, and decoupled tweeters for a clean top end. They frequently offer unique features that you won’t find elsewhere. The Concept 300 Bookshelf Speaker (which follows the astounding Concept 500 Floorstander) is the most recent demonstration of Q Acoustics’ most cutting-edge technology, but their flagship Concept series pushes their passion for groundbreaking designs to the maximum.

This elegant two-way loudspeaker uses a remarkable cabinet design on top of a cutting-edge stand to deliver a surprisingly tight, clear sound. It is luxury and cutting-edge at the same time. The music is spread out over the front of the room into a wonderful open presentation as a result of this speaker’s excellent ability to blend into the soundstage. The Concept 300 may provide a lovely transparent sound when paired with the appropriate electronics (i.e., strong, high-current).

Design

Design

The Concept 300s use Q Acoustics’ cabinet advancements as well to minimise their total sound contribution. They use P2P (point-to-point) bracing, which gives support to the cabinet elements that need to be strengthened to make them quieter, just as the Concept 500s. The three layers of MDF in the cabinet are separated by Gelcore, a supple decoupling material that doesn’t set. Any vibration that passes between the layers just becomes heat within the gel. While the stands may be divisive, Q Acoustics has retained its usually simple, modern, and minimalist style on the outside, and the cabinets are stunning. They sound best when placed just outside of the room, which contributes to their big total footprint of 40 cm, but they have a high-quality build and finish.

Sound Quality

Sound Quality

Q Acoustics has a reputation for creating cutting-edge, high-performance, and premium loudspeakers at all price points. Concept 300 was created as a result of this ongoing example of excellence. It was intended to be straightforward yet incredibly ambitious. Building on the popularity of the floorstanding Concept 500, the 300 offers a standmount option that is less expensive, completely uncompromised, and sveltely modest.

The Concept 300’s smaller cabinet perfectly complements Q Acoustics’ renowned driver technology from the Concept 500. Due to its high-performance rubber surround, the 165mm coated paper cone used in the mid/bass driver has extremely low resonance. The midrange and bass response is as snappy and forceful as it is poised and expressive thanks to the presence of a massive 35mm glass fibre voice coil and ferrite magnet.

Using a rubber gasket, the 28mm high-frequency driver, which is made of very thin coated microfibre strands, is separated from the cabinet. Unwanted vibrations cannot be transmitted by the tweeter, and putting it near to the mid-bass driver enhances integration with the larger driver. Perfect impedance matching to its surroundings is made possible without performance being coloured by the front plate’s subtle horn-shaped appearance.

Conclusion

It had the feeling that Q Acoustics’ Concept 300 did practically everything right and did nothing wrong for a minimonitor. The pair of speakers sounded full-bodied, pleasant, and clear in the middle; they exhibited excellent bass extension for a minimonitor; a textbook high-frequency response that was essentially flat with a moderate negative slope from 2 to 20 kHz; and a textbook low-frequency response. The Concept 300s also had a very clear sound; I never detected or even thought I detected any cabinet colouring. This demonstrates how far Q went in designing this speaker’s stand to reduce unintentional resonances that can spoil the sound.
