BenQ TK800M Review – The 4K projector

Nothing offers greater entertainment value per dollar spent on a wide screen than a projector. Unfortunately, most people haven’t taken to projectors as quickly as they have TVs, whether it’s because they’re afraid of the setup process, worried about performance, or worried about the cost.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way. The BenQ TK800M, which produces images up to 300″ in size and is as simple to set up as pointing at a white wall, is an excellent example of a form factor that offers big screen action for people on a budget. To get started, all you need is a soundbar for the audio.

Even while a huge screen TV may be much more expensive, it still won’t be able to generate a picture as large as what a projector can. The TK800M, however, is capable of more than just delivering a 4K image; it also supports High Dynamic Range, which makes it perfect for viewing movies, playing immersive games, or even the big game.

Design

Design

The BenQ TK800M has a classic single-chip DLP projector appearance, with an air vent on the left and a lens that is offset to the right when facing the front. Two HDMI inputs are included in the standard set of connectors at the back of the device; the first is HDCP 2.2 compatible and should be used for any 4K/HDR sources, while the second is HDCP 1.4 compliant and may be used for high-definition sources. Additionally, there are two USB ports, a 12V trigger, an RS232 serial connection, analog audio in and out, and a PC/VGA input. The first is for service updates in the latter situation, but the second can be utilized to power other devices. The projector’s top rear has a panel with some rudimentary controls, but the accompanying remote is the primary tool for configuring and managing the TK800M. This little white controller is well-made, and thoughtfully designed, and, most importantly, it includes a backlight so you can operate it in the dark. This is a very efficient remote because all the key buttons are easily accessible with your thumb.

Picture Quality

Sound Quality

When using the BenQ TK800M to view the 4K video, the first thing we noticed was how detailed the picture was. It’s possible that the projector is using some visual cunning to increase the perceived resolution to the necessary eight million pixels, but it works. The image was highly detailed and the brightness really suited itself to the wintry vistas if we played The Revenant’s Ultra HD Blu-ray. Testing the TK800M revealed that its ability to display a wide variety of colours was constrained by the colour wheel, but BenQ did a decent job of adapting HDR material to the projector’s inherent capabilities. As a result, the TK800M allows you to enjoy a large projected image even in a space with white walls or large windows.

    Good brightness but.............

    Length of Use: 6–12 months

    Overall Experience:

For the price, this projector is at most acceptable. The quality is acceptable, the brightness is definitely good. It works well in a dark space, but even a little light makes the pictures appear washed out.
