Anthem AVM 70 Review: A/V Processor

The Anthem AVM 70 is a superb A/V preamp/processor that carries on the Anthem’s history of excellence. A 15.2-channel next-generation preamplifier processor is the Anthem AVM 70. The product style has been modified such that it now resembles the STR series items from Anthem. The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based audio formats are both processed by the AVM 70, which also supports DTS:X Pro, a format that enables up to 32 linked speakers. An updated calibration microphone has been included in the ARC kit, and Anthem has revised its ARC Genesis Room Correction software to enable up to 15.2 channel setups on the AVM 70.

The AVM 70 supports HDMI 2.0b as well as all the common video capabilities, including HDCP 2.2, 4:4:4 colour subsampling, broad colour gamut (BT.2020), Dolby Vision, HDR10, and hybrid log-gamma. It also enables a passthrough of 4K/60Hz Ultra HD transmissions at up to 18.2 Gbps. If you have an HDTV that is compatible, Anthem also introduced support for eARC (improved Audio Return Channel). In order to present IMAX Enhanced material in your home theatre, the AVM 70 now comes with the licensed IMAX Enhanced technology, which combines IMAX digitally remastered 4K HDR video and improved DTS:X audio. You must have an IMAX Enhanced certified display or projector in order to use this feature.

Design

Design

The AVM 70’s appearance has been revised by Anthem, who notably borrowed from the STR series’ product design aesthetics. The MCA Gen 2 amplifiers and the MRX series receivers, as well as the overall product range, have a contemporary minimalist design. There are now 17 balanced XLR outputs on the back panel, which can accommodate 15 speakers and two separate subwoofers. When comparing the STR series to the AVM 70, you might not immediately notice the change because the aluminium faceplate on the STR series is carved. Anthem eliminates the FM tuner and MHL with the AVM 70. (Mobile High-Definition Link).

On the rear panel, there is a USB port, although Anthem just uses it for services. The inclusion of Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X up mixers creates an immersive 3D surround experience.

Sound Quality

Sound Quality

To accommodate the most recent Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-oriented audio codecs, premium home theatres today require up to 15 speakers and 4 subwoofers. You may create sound quality comparable to the top commercial movie theatres by combining an AVM 70Processor with a stack of MCA amplifiers. With ARC Genesis Room Correction, AVM Processors can now control setups with up to 15.4 channels (up from 11.2), assuring the finest sound at every seat. Additionally, you won’t have to conceal your equipment.

Conclusion

All the technology required to support a contemporary home theatre system is there in the Anthem AVM 70. It can work as a state-of-the-art 15.2 channel processor that supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and DTS:X Pro. It can handle the most recent 4K UltraHD Blu-ray material, including Dolby Vision, and supports HDMI video pass-through. At some time in the future, it will be upgradeable to HDMI 2.1 with compatibility for 8K for a price. The impressive Anthem ARC Genesis Room Correction technology is present. The AVM 70 has a brand-new, cutting-edge online interface for configuration and management. The most recent streaming technologies are also supported, and Roon Ready and Spotify Connect will be added.

Anthem’s AVM 70 is the latest in a range of products that provide customers with great functionality and performance. A high-end analog audio stage, which is already provided with the Anthem STR integrated amplifier and STR preamplifier could be the only item that is lacking in this setup. The AVM 70 doesn’t require such premium analog features, which would merely increase the price to the user as streaming content became more prevalent. Nowadays, there is a surprising amount of competition in the market for A/V processors, but Anthem continues to stand out because of its ability to perform Anthem Room Correction without downsampling your high-resolution video.

You should give the Anthem AVM 70 significant attention while choosing your next preamplifier processor.

The Excellent Anthem AVM 70 for you

    By Suraiyam Iyyer

    Length of Use: 3–6 months

    Overall Experience:

The DACs used in the Anthem receivers are updated for the Anthem AVM70. The AVM70 provides us with a significant upgrade over the prior model when combined with the low noise toroidal transformer. The DACs are 32 bit/768 kHz, which is already rather amazing.
